Many people suffer from vein disorders. Most people who have spider veins consider them unsightly.

In rare cases the superficial veins may become painfully inflamed (thrombophlebitis). Deep vein thrombosis (phlebothrombosis) is often accompanied by swelling and a feeling of heaviness. This condition poses a real risk of pulmonary embolism.

If damage to the valves restricts the flow of venous blood, this can cause swelling, inflammation, itching, eczema and ulcerated legs.

Conditions such as diabetes, being overweight, poor arterial circulation and a sedentary lifestyle can exacerbate the symptoms and make treatment difficult.

The diagnosis of vein disorders involves:

  • taking a detailed medical history
  • physical examination
  • Doppler ultrasound examination
  • photoplethysmography

If a disorder is diagnosed, we will then decide what measures and steps should be taken, for example:

  • weight reduction
  • compression bandages or hose
  • treatment of ulcers and hypostatic eczema
  • check-up appointments
  • sclerotherapy for spider veins or larger veins
  • surgical procedures, e.g. stripping

Surgical procedures are done in co-operation with the Dermatology Clinic of the University of Frankfurt and the Darmstadt-Eberstadt Dermatology Clinic.

If you would like to have a vein examination please ask reception for a V-1 appointment.

This examination is not invasive and can be done during pregnancy or lactation.
